Entrepreneurship is a journey.
It's not a destination.
And like any journey, you'll face challenges.
Challenges that require you to be a certain way.
To think a certain way.
To act a certain way.
Here are 3 habits that might be sabotaging your journey:
The "I'll do it tomorrow" syndrome.
I have a story for you.
Meet Jack.
Jack is an ambitious guy.
He has a dream of starting a business, building a great brand and making a lot of money.
He’s excited about his future and can’t wait to get started.
But Jack has a problem.
Whenever there’s work to be done, he says, "I’ll do it tomorrow."
And his tomorrow never comes.
His to-do list keeps getting longer.
His ideas are slowly dying in his notebook.
Jack’s dream is becoming a nightmare.
And he's doing nothing about it.
Now let’s meet Jill.
Jill is also ambitious.
She has a dream of starting a business, building a great brand and making a lot of money.
But there’s a difference between Jill and Jack.
Jill doesn't wait until tomorrow.
She gets up and takes action today.
She starts small, taking small steps towards her dream.
She makes progress every day.
And those small steps turn into big leaps.
Jill's dream is becoming her reality.
It's time to ditch the "I'll do it tomorrow" syndrome.
Take action today. Start small. Make progress every day.
Because tomorrow is not promised.
And your tomorrow is the same as today.
Do it now.
The "I know everything" syndrome.
The silent killer of entrepreneurs.
It lures you into a false sense of security.
That feeling that you know everything.
That feeling that you're untouchable.
I remember when I was first starting out on my entrepreneurial journey.
I was so full of myself. I thought I knew everything.
But then, a humbling experience happened.
I met a guy.
A guy who had been in my industry for 15 years.
A guy who had seen it all. Done it all.
And when I talked to him, I realized something.
I didn't know anything.
Compared to him, I was a novice.
And that's when I realized:
There's always someone smarter.
Better. More experienced. More knowledgeable.
And that's okay.
Because instead of feeling threatened by those people, You should learn from them.
Allow them to teach you. Grow with them. And watch your knowledge (and your success) skyrocket.
So let me ask you:
Who is the expert in your field? Who can you learn from? Who can you grow with?
Go find them. And let the learning begin.
The "I can't ask for help" syndrome.
You aren't a robot.
You can't do everything yourself.
But why is it so hard to ask for help?
I had a friend once.
As an entrepreneur, he had the "I can't ask for help" syndrome.
He was building a product.
He was managing his finances. He was doing everything.
He thought:
“I don’t want to bother anyone.” “I don't want to look weak.” “I don’t want to give anyone a reason to doubt me.”
Things got tough.
He was overworked and burnt out. He had no time for family and friends.
One day, his partner left him. His health started deteriorating.
He realized then it was okay to ask for help. It was okay to seek guidance.
He connected with his network. He attended some events.
And then something happened.
His business skyrocketed. His personal life improved.
He found support. He found community.
He learned that asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
It's a sign of strength.
A willingness to grow. A desire to improve.
So if you're feeling stuck, If you're overwhelmed, If you're burnt out,
Remember:
You aren't a robot. You need help. And that's okay.
Final thoughts
Don't let these three insidious habits sabotage your entrepreneurial journey.
Procrastination, arrogance, and the reluctance to seek help can cost you millions in lost opportunities and personal growth.
